Morning folks,

Just a quick post today over something that I’ve been pondering for quite a while now.

Why is everything so damn complicated anymore? Of course I’m not talking about the deep inner workings of life, although I question the need for complexity there too, but for the purposes of this blog, I’m talking about fitness and nutrition? Why is everything fitness or nutritionally related made out to be so damn daunting and difficult?

Look at running, arguably the simplest form of exercise known to man. Yet we are told we can’t do it without some proper form training, a huge over-compensating shoe, and nasty energy gu to keep us going for more than a few hundred yards. People think that they can’t run or improve their running without an over analysis of every minute aspect of their last run. Granted, I don’t knock those people for their obsession with statistical improvement, but I do question their enjoyment of running. Some people who I’ve seen running lately have looked more space cowboy than

I see why he's pissed...Why are you?

runner. Spandex suits, 3 different electronic gadgets, their handheld, giant clunky shoes, and a grimace on their face reminiscent of Hank Hill’s father. It’s just bizarre. What’s even more troublesome is that these people look at me like I’m some sort of freak…Running shorts, shirt, ipod, and water bottle…That’s it. Sure, I could get all Anton on you and run without water, without a shirt, and without an ipod…But I don’t like the idea of my moobs flopping in the breeze, and I don’t like the idea of dehydration. A lot of the time, my Ipod stays in the car. Rather than a grimace, I wear a smile on my face. Even when the run is tough or my motivation is fleeting I’m still smiling. Running is a joy for me. Something that I used to not have. Less than 2.5 years ago, I couldn’t run more than a mile without terrible shin splints, back pain, shortness of breath, and utter disdain for any form of cardio…Now, I can’t wait to get outside and run…I want people to find joy in what they do. Perhaps if they stripped away all the extra shit from their lives, they’d be able to find joy in the simple things…Like EATING.

IT DOESN"T GET ANY SIMPLER!

Why does nutrition have to be even more difficult than running? Why does this idea of eating clean foods, (in my case paleo but to each his own) seem so impossible? Don’t get me wrong, I’ve struggled with eating clean my whole life and I’m not perfect at it. But people act like they can’t or shouldn’t try anything that some licensed (no matter how pathetic the license is) douche bag looking to make a quick buck doesn’t recommend. I’m not saying that all dietitians or nutrition gurus are full of shit. However, most of them are so backed up from their own piss poor nutrition that they can’t help but regurgitate their own CW diarrhea onto anyone willing to listen. I mean why on Earth do we, the average person, need to be considering what carbohydrates we should be consuming pre or post workout? Why on Earth do we need to honestly worry about the macronutrient break down of our foods on a daily basis? Why the need for all the obsession? I promise if you follow only the rules listed over there in that picture, your health will drastically improve and your nutritional routine will become much simpler. If you are interested in the hows and why it works, may I direct you to: Robb Wolf, Mark’s Daily Apple, Everyday Paleo, and Whole9life. Those sites should be more than enough “proof” that it works. Paleo is simple. It’s when people start trying to paleofy their favorite garbage recipes that things get complicated. All I’m asking for you to do is keep it simple. Simplify your nutrition and your exercise and I promise other things will start to fall in place and simplify themselves.  Give it a try. What’s the worst that could happen?

I leave you with the video that inspired this post.

Until next time,

Puff
